Getting Rid of New Website Anxiety
Well, having a website is a huge deal but it is nothing to be afraid of. A website should be seen as an extension of your business. It is there to help you not hurt you. Your website should be the place that you want your customers to go to and see all the wonderful services you provide. It should be one that you are proud of and one that you enjoy putting the work into whether it be done by you or by a hired professional.

To have a website there are a few main things you need.
- Your domain name. Your domain name is basically the address people will type in their browser to get to your website. For example, www.yourbusinessname.com and it is super easy to register for one. A domain name usually costs around $8.99 – $12 per year. I recommend Google Domains (GSuite), Go Daddy or Bluehost.
- Your website hosting. Hosting is basically where your website lives. Without it, your website cannot be online. Hosting prices vary depending on the type of hosting you purchase. Shared hosting is typically all you need for starting out and it is easier on the budget. Prices usually start from $3.95 to about $11 per month. I currently recommend Siteground and Bluehost but WP Engine is one that has been proven to be the best for WordPress. It is just more expensive but for good reason as it is a managed solution. Note that you do not need to have your domain name and your hosting in the same place.
- A business email address. As a business, you should have a dedicated business email. It is this email address that I recommend you use for your website. The best type of email for your business should be one that is associated with your domain for example [email protected]. Having an email like this also serves as a way to promote your website. I recommend GSuite for your emails as it is the most reliable. One of the things I like is that if you are familiar with the Gmail interface, your business email will be no different. Another thing is that if you move your hosting at some point in time, your emails remain unharmed because they are hosted elsewhere.
With that said, if this still overwhelms you, make sure to check with your design studio if they can set all of this up for you. Here at Designs by Anthea, we can set up your domain, your hosting and email address. Our website maintenance plans include these to help ease you through the process.
